NORMAN. Henry I. 1100-1135. AR Penny (20mm, 1.43 g, 12h). Quadrilateral on Cross Fleurée type (BMC xv). Uncertain mint and moneyer. Struck circa 1125-1135. Crowned bust facing slightly left, holding lis-tipped scepter in right hand / [+...]P[E or I :...], quadrilateral with incurved sides and fleurs at limbs; all over cross fleurée. North 871; SCBC 1276. VF, toned, areas of flat strike.

From the R.D. Frederick Collection.

The two letters could perhaps be interpreted as PI :, suggesting an interpretation as Ælfwi, a moneyer at Norwich. However, the dies do not match any of this moneyer’s coins in the Pimprez hoard, and it is unclear whether there are two pellets or three pellets, necessitating either an interpretation as I : or E.
