EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Roman Imperial. Uncertain Tribe. After 19 BC. AR Denarius (18.5mm, 3.49 g, 6h). Reverse imitating Q. Rusticus issue of Augustus. Laureate head left of Roman style; pseudo-legend to left / Altar; pseudo-legend around and within. Unpublished in the standard references, but for prototype of reverse, cf. RIC I 322. VF, toned, porous, a couple flan flaws and marks. Very rare.
From the RBW Collection. Ex Hirsch 284 (26 September 2012), lot 2122.
The obverse portrait seems most similar to the right-facing busts of Julius Caesar.
