KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (29mm, 16.75 g, 12h). Uncertain mint. Posthumous issue, early-mid 3rd century BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; club in left field. Unpublished. Good VF.
There are a couple issues recorded in Price with a single club in the left field, but the style of the present piece is significantly different from those. The fabric of this issue is also consistent with issues of western Asia Minor in the early-mid 3rd century, which is also chronologically separate from the same club-only issues in Price.
