ELECTROTYPES, Ionia. Ephesus. Phanes. Circa 625-600 BC. “EL Stater” (22mm, 10.30 g total). British Museum electrotype by Robert Ready or his sons. Uniface of obverse: ΦANEOS (in retrograde archaic Greek), stag grazing right, its dappled coat indicated by indentations on the body / Uniface of reverse: Two incuse punches, each with raised intersecting lines. Head, Guide, Period I.A., 7; cf. Kraay & Hirmer 585 (for prototype). As made, toned.
