VF, toned, a couple of flan splits and striking perforations, scratches under tone, wrinkled flan. Extremely rare.

The monogram of CRX or DRX has been variously interpreted: 1) Charlemagne Rex, struck in 754 to recognize the suzerainty of the king of the Franks (Gariel); 2) Christianus Rex (Wroth); 3) Dominus noster Rex (Bernareggi).
