IONIA, Ephesos(?). Circa 600-550 BC. EL Trite – Third Stater (10mm, 4.25 g). “Primitive” bee(?) / Incuse square. Cf. Karwiese Series II, otherwise unpublished. VF.

The obverse type seems to be a crude rendition of a bee, somewhat similar to those found on the trites of Karwiese’s Series II. The reverse, with only a single punch, however, is unprecedented for trites at Ephesos.
