New Kingdom. Circa 1550-1070 BC. Steatite scarab with partial blue glaze (18x14mm). Face engraved in three registers: on top register, two lion foreparts flank a clump of lotus flowers (symbolizing Upper Egypt); in middle, two eyes of Horus and two bees (symbolizing the pharaoh) flank a scarab (symbol of rebirth); in bottom register, two crocodiles (
Sobek) on pedestals flank a
sa (“eternity”) symbol. Below the whole design is a
neb (“lord”). Minor chips. Pierced.
