New Kingdom. Circa 1550-1070 BC. Steatite scarab with traces of green glaze (15x10mm). Face engraved with a cryptic inscription referencing Amun. A finely detailed specimen. Pierced.
From the Carl Devries Collection.
An unusual arrangement of the deity Amun’s name. As the god’s name means “the hidden one,” it was perhaps deemed appropriate to render his name so cryptographically.
