Old Kingdom. 2686-2181, possibly Third Dynasty, 2686-2613 BC. Blue-green faience tile (58x36mm). Tile with rear piercing on back for mounting in a central, raised area. Such pieces are frequently attributed to the Step Pyramid of Djoser and the surrounding complexes in Saqqara. Small chip in one corner and glaze slightly faded, otherwise a nicely preserved specimen. Cf. F. Dunn Friedman,
Gifts of the Nile: Ancient Egyptian Faience (London, 1998), p. 180, 17-20. .
