Anonymous. 194-190 BC. Æ As (36mm, 36.65 g, 7h). Rome mint. Laureate head of bearded Janus; I (mark of value) above / Prow of galley right; crescent and I (mark of value) above. Crawford 137/2; Sydenham 267; Type as RBW 611. VF, dark green to black patina with some earthen highlights, old scratch on obverse. Very rare.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from Martina Dieterle, 2004.

This is a very rare bronze type, distinguishable from the merely scarce Cr. 57/3 by the smaller and neater devices, especially the prow, and with a prow-stem that is more angled, slightly narrower, and is engraved in stronger relief. The style of this series matches exactly that of others of the same era such as L.PL.H, shield and MAE, and eagle wreath. [A. McCabe]
