L. Rubrius Dossenus. 87 BC. AR Denarius (17mm, 3.80 g, 6h). Rome mint. Helmeted bust of Minerva right, wearing aegis; DOS behind / Triumphal quadriga right, [surmounted by Victory in biga right]; [L]•RVBRI in exergue. Crawford 348/3; Sydenham 707; Rubria 3; Type as RBW 1324. VF, toned, weakly struck on the reverse.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from CGB, Paris, 2009.

This issue invariably comes flatly struck and on short flans, and as a result, the figure of Victory with outspread wings in a fast-moving biga launching itself from the top of the triumphal quadriga is very rarely visible: knowing to look for it, the biga can be faintly seen on this coin.
