L. Rubrius Dossenus. 87 BC. Æ As (27mm, 12.57 g, 6h). Rome mint. Janiform heads of Hercules and Mercury; club to lower left, [caduceus] to lower right / Prow of galley right, protruding from behind small distyle temple [containing cylindrical altar]; DOSSE to left; [L•RVBRI] below. From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 241 (29 September 2010), lot 291.

Crawford in RRC unhelpfully notes that there is no convincing explanation for the presence of (the janiform heads of) Hercules and Mercury on the obverse of this type. [A. McCabe]
