CAROLINGIANS. Charlemagne (Charles the Great). As Charles I, King of the Franks, 768-814. Pale AV Tremissis (17mm, 1.08 g, 1h). Lucca mint. D • N C•A•RLVS RЄX, cross potent; pellet in each quarter / + FLAVIA LV : CA, stellate symbol with leaf in each void; all within circle; pellet in C. Bernareggi, Tremissi –; Bernareggi, Moneta –; Bernareggi –; Arslan –; BMC Vandals –; MEC 1, –; cf. CNI XI 6 (for obv. legend); MIR –; Bellesia, Lucca –. Good VF, lightly toned; a couple of light scratches and marks, small hairline flan crack at 8 o’clock on obverse. Apparently unique.
