ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Kent. Ecgberht. Circa 765-785. AR Penny (17mm, 1.17 g, 12h). Canterbury mint; Udd, moneyer. Struck circa 776-784. + EGCBERHT around (RX) / VDD within pelleted rectangle; above and below, cross pattée with pellets in quarters between spiral and triple pellet ornaments. Chick Type 87; EMC 2013.0114 (this coin); SCBI 1 (Fitzwilliam), 428; BMC 1; North 200; SCBC 874 (this coin illustrated). VF, toned, minor bend in flan. One of the earliest broad flan English pennies issued. Very rare.
