Sold for $550. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

MYSIA, Kyzikos. Circa 600-550 BC. EL Myshemihekte – Twenty-fourth Stater (6.5mm, 0.63 g). Head of tunny right; two pellets below / Quadripartite incuse square. Hurter & Liewald III p. 14, 1; Von Fritze I –; Boston MFA –; SNG BN –; SNG von Aulock 7260; Rosen 413. Good VF. Very rare, only four known to Hurter & Liewald.

Hurter & Liewald placed this issue in a section of coins “associated to Kyzikos”, as they doubted the attribution based on characteristics of the striking. Of course, the four examples they knew of appeared on the market in isolation. However, more of these have recently come to market alongside contemporary issues definitively placed at Kyzikos, so the attribution to that city must be accepted.
