Sold for $525. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Blue faience amulet of Osiris. Egypt, Late Period, 664-332 BC. Osiris, his arms at side and feet astride, wears a lotus crown and a false beard. No piercing. Height: 5.3cm. Intact and rare. Unlisted in Petrie.

From the Carl Devries Collection.

This interesting amulet features a variation of Osiris’ normal crown. Typically the deity wears a tall crown of Lower Egypt with a double ma’at, symbol of truth. On the current piece, however, he wears a crown with a lotus, the symbol of birth/rebirth. This probably refers to Osiris’ descent into and return from the underworld.
