Blue-green glazed steatite plaque. Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty. Amenhotep III (circa 1386-1353 BC). On one face, a bust of a falcon wearing crown. On the opposite, several readings of
Amun Ra in a cryptic presentation and the cartouche of Amenhotep III (12x9mm). Hairline crack, but intact and with a fine glaze. Pierced.
From the Carl Devries Collection.
We have here a variation of “Ra Men Kheper,” employing the hieroglyph for the sun in place of the normal scarab (kheper).
