Claudius II Gothicus. AD 268-270. Antoninianus (20mm, 4.70 g, 12h). Mediolanum (Milan) mint, 3rd officina. 1st emission, circa September AD 268. Radiate and cuirassed bust left, wearing aegis, holding spear over shoulder / FELIC TENPO (sic), Felicitas standing left, holding caduceus and scepter; –/–//T. Normanby –; RIC V 145 note; RIC Online 17 (this coin cited). VF, brown surfaces, porosity. Very rare with this bust type. One of only six currently cited in RIC Online (three of which are in public collections).

According to RIC Online, this issue was struck as part of a donativum (a monetary gift to soldiers in addition to their regular pay). This particular donativum would have marked Claudius’ accesssion.
