ROMAN. Imperial. PB counterfeiter’s “working hub” matrix. Mid- 3rd century AD. Dimensions: overall length, 10-17mm; diameter, 40mm, tapering to 31mm at face. Of cylindrical form. Weight: 144.15 grams. A lead matrix of an ADVENTVS AVG antoninianus or aureus reverse used to make dies for contemporary counterfeits . Cf. RIC IV 11a and 79 (Gallus; for official issues). Intact, earthen gray patina.
