415, Lot: 257. Estimate $100.
Sold for $110. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. temp. Artaxerxes I to Artaxerxes III. Circa 455-340 BC. AR Tenth Siglos(?) (6mm, 0.53 g). Upper torso of Persian king or hero, quiver over shoulder, left, holding bow in left hand, [and dagger in right?] / Incuse punch. Unpublished in the standard references. Near VF, toned. Extremely rare.

Although the dagger is not visible, the position of the right arm is consistent with the issues of Carradice Type IV, where it holds a dagger. Issues of Type III, with a spear, have the weapon depicted going over the figure’s shoulder, which would be visible here.
