CILICIA, Tarsos. Tarkumuwa (Datames). Satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia, 384-361/0 BC. AR Obol (11mm, 0.77 g, 9h). Struck circa 380 BC. Draped bust of female facing slightly left, wearing earrings and necklace / Bearded head left, wearing crested Attic helmet, drapery around neck; “TRKMW” in Aramaic to left. Cf. Casabonne Series 1; Göktürk –; SNG BN –; SNG Levante –; Leu 1 (2017), lot 91; Lanz 159 (2014), lot 258. VF, toned, granular surfaces. Fine style. Rare with satrap’s name on reverse.
This issue normally carries the Armaic inscription “HLK” (= “Cilicia”) on reverse.
