SICILY, Syracuse. Time of Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.35 gm). Struck circa 405 BC. Reverse die signed by Parmenides. Charioteer driving galloping quadriga left, holding kentron and reins; Nike flying above and crowning charioteer, grain ear in exergue / Head of Arethusa left, wearing ampyx and sphendone, surrounded by four dolphins; signature PAR[ME] under truncation of neck. Tudeer 71 (V25/R49); cf. SNG ANS 284; Jameson 836 (same reverse die). Attractive light toning, nice VF. ($3000)
