Anonymous. 211-208 BC. AR Victoriatus (16.3mm, 2.67 g, 4h). CROT series. Uncertain mint. Laureate head of Jupiter right / Victory standing right, erecting trophy; CROT upward between. Crawford 92/1a; Sydenham 120; RSC 36b; Type as RBW 386. VF, find patina, faint scratches. Scarce.
From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from M. Raquel Vidal Montull, 2014 .
A very rare type from an uncertain mint that occurs in no early hoards (cf. RRC p. 23). Crawford suggests that CROT represents a personal name and cannot represent CROTON. This example was purchased from an Iberian seller, which may be a provenance hint. [A. McCabe]
