ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Cnut. 1016-1035. AR Penny (19mm, 1.12 g, 6h). Pointed Helmet type (BMC xiv, Hild. G). Lincoln mint; Wulfbeorn, moneyer. Struck circa 1024-1030. Bust left, wearing pointed helmet; scepter before / + PVLBARN MO LINC, voided short cross, limbs united at base by two concentric circles with pellet in center; in each angle, broken annulet enclosing pellet. Mossop 11, dies F/d; SCBI 14 (Copenhagen), 1899 (same dies); North 787; SCBC 1158. VF, attractively toned. An unusual rendering of the moneyer's name (Mossop notes only 2 out of 25 dies with this spelling).
