LYDIA, Uncertain. Circa 650-550 BC. EL Hekte (2.32 gm). Forepart of lion left / Double incuse punches, one with stellate pattern, the other with a bird left (eagle?). Spier 9 (same dies); Rosen 368 (same dies). VF. Extremely rare. ($750)
This coin is apparently the fourth known Hekte of this type. In addition to the two coins cited by Spier (which included the Rosen specimen), the third appeared in Trition VI (15-16 January 2003), lot 400.
