BAKTRIA, Local issues. Circa 295/3-285/3 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24.5mm, 16.17 g, 12h). Local standard. Uncertain mint in the Oxus region. Helmeted head of Athena right; [ΣTA to left] MNA below / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent behind; grape bunch above tail. SMAK pp. 64-70; cf. Nicolet-Pierre & Amandry 1-2 (for type); Bopearachchi, Sophytes –; Bopearachchi & Rahman –; SNG ANS 9 –; HGC 12, –; Zeno –; Roma E-Sale 42, lot 274 (same dies, but ΣTA MNA off flan). Near VF, toned, areas of flat strike, deposit and light scrape on reverse. Very rare and possibly a variety without the addition of ΣTA.
