SAKARAUKAE. Cheiroukes. Circa 1st century AD. Æ Drachm (2.84 gm). Head left, wearing Parthian style tiara; Pahlevi legend around / XEIPOVKOV MAPCAKOY CATPA
POY in four lines. Senior 190.2D; Alram 1270; MIG 1079. Near VF for type. The fifth and possibly finest known example. ($200)
Cheiroukes is given the title of "Satrap of Marsakes". Neither Cheiroukes nor Marsakes is known to history, but they must have been sub-rulers under the Parthian overlords. This coin has the most complete Pahlevi legend on the obverse of all known specimens. In addition, where Senior describes the tiara as having an "A" on it, in reality it can be seen to be the quilted design of the tiara.
