[VESPASIAN] Celator's hub. 69-70 AD. Bronze, diameter of face 22mm, overall diameter 32mm, length of shank 14mm (87.85 gm). Positive impression of the reverse of denarius of Vespasian from Ephesus. Titus and Domitian, veiled, facing, holding pateras; BY monogram between figures. For type, cf. RPC II 827. VF, polishing marks on face, several areas of deep pitting and encrustation. Unique? ($5000)
By comparison, it appears possible that the reverse die used for striking the previous lot, 1275, may have been created with this hub.
