Hematite cylinder seal. Near Eastern, Old Babylonian Period, 1925-1595 BC. Engraved with a god standing left, holding long kaunakes and staff ending in a crescent moon (badge of Sin, god of the moon). Before him, a second god with a mace (often described as Marduk) standing right. Behind this figure, a supplicant Naga. An inscription in two lines reads
d-Mar, d-A-a (“of Marduk and Aya”).
Height: 28mm. Significant damage to lower portion of seal.
