A diverse mix of types, including 53 “Zoo” Antoniniani depicting various real and mythical animals (hippocamps, panthers, stags, gazelles, does, Pegasi, centaurs, etc.). . Fine to VF, some roughness. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. One-hundred and eighty-eight (188) coins in lot.
Gallienus’ so-called “Zoo series” was issued late in his reign and depicts an assortment of animals and mythical creatures. Each creature was associated with a particular deity who is identified on the reverse legend and given the title of protector of the emperor.
