MYSIA, Kyzikos(?). Circa 600-550 BC. EL Myshemihekte – Twenty-fourth Stater (7mm, 0.63 g). Half of a tunny fish right, border of widely spaced pellets / Quadripartite incuse square in swastika form. Hurter & Liewald III 1d (
this coin); Von Fritze I –; Boston MFA –; SNG BN –; SNG von Aulock 7260; Rosen 413. Choice EF, a couple tiny deposits. Extremely rare, only four recorded by Hurter & Liewald.
Ex Triton VI (14 January 2003), lot 295.
Hurter and Liewald question the attribution of this issue to Kyzikos, noting that although they are clearly struck on the correct weight standard, elements of the style, particularly the form of the incuse and the presence of a dotted border, are foreign to the mint during this period.
