CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 450-440 BC. AR Nomos (23mm, 7.59 g, 8h). Taras, nude, extending left hand and supporting himself with his right, riding dolphin right upon waves; TAPA to left / Nude youth, holding rein in left hand and supporting himself with his right, riding horse galloping right. Fischer-Bossert Group 11, 148 (V77/R103); Vlasto 258–61 (same obv. die); HN Italy 847; SNG Lloyd 143 (same obv. die); Basel 81 (same obv. die); Berlin 91 = Kraay & Hirmer 302 (same obv. die); Gillet 69 (same dies); Jameson 98 (same obv. die). VF, toned, minor porosity. An extremely rare die combination in a very rare series.

The final winners of all Triton XXII lots will be determined at the live public sale that will be held on January 8 and 9, 2019. The website will indicate the current selling level both during the website bidding and after the website bidding closes, however the final winner and sales prices will not be determined until the bidding takes place in the public auction. The final Triton XXII prices realized will be uploaded to the website on January 10, 2019. Bidding will close strictly at the indicated time, any bids received at the site after the closing time will not be executed. Please note that transmittal times vary and bidding as time expires may result in rejection of the bid.
