OSTROGOTHS. Theodoric. In the name of Anastasius I. 489-526 AD. AV Solidus (4.12 gm). Ravenna mint. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with horseman / Victory standing left, holding long voided cross; star in left field; monogram of Theodoric/CONOB. MEC 1, -; MIB I 13; BMC Vandals pg. 46, 4. Fine, many small field marks. A very rare Ostrogothic solidus. ($1000)
MIB I 12 is a variety with RV (Ravenna) mintmark in the reverse right field. The note for BMC 4 remarks that it appears the mintmark has been erased from that coin. The same appears true for the present specimen.
