ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Wessex. Æthelberht. 858-865/6. AR Penny (20mm, 1.10 g, 6h). Floreate Cross type. Canterbury mint; Tohrtmund. Struck circa 864-865. + ΛEÐELBEΛR(HT) REX, diademed bust right / + TORHTMVND MONETΛ, cross fleurée with leaf-shaped wedges in angles. Naismith 217c (this coin); SCBI 67 (BM), 1304-5; North 621; SCBC 1054. EF, toned, minor edge chip. Very rare, with a most impressive provenance.
