Bust Crowned Penny of Eadgar

NOTICE: Coin has two flan cracks, one with added material for support. Due to these defects not being noted until recently, all bids placed before the day of the sale will be cancelled, and we will only be accepting bids from the floor.

ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Eadgar. 959-975. AR Penny (22mm, 1.30 g, 3h). Bust Crowned (BC) type. Mint in East Anglia; Hildigir, moneyer. + EΛDGΛR REX, radiate and draped bust right / + HILDIGIR MONETA Λ, small cross pattée. CTCE –; Hild –; SCBI 34 (BM), –; North 750; SCBC 1138. Near EF, toned, faint reverse scratches, flan cracks (one with material added for support). Very rare, and an unrecorded moneyer for this series.
