Struck under Peithon, satrap of Babylonia, circa 315-311 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; monogram in left field, monogram within wreath below throne. Price 3726. VF, toned, a few small deposits.


In 315 BC, Antigonos I Monophthalmos forced Seleukos I to flee from his satrapy in Babylon, and replaced him with Peithon, a Macedonian who had served under Alexander III as satrap of southern India. After Alexander’s death, Peithon had been appointed to the satrapy of Media.
