UNCERTAIN WESTERN EUROPE. Æ As (29mm, 12.45 g, 6h). Countermark applied early-mid 1st century AD. IV CA in rectangular countermark on a bronze dupondius of Claudius. Cf. Pangerl 19 (for a Gallic I(MP) C A countermark). Host Fine, c/m VF, brown patina.

From the Richard Baker Collection, purchased from Byzantium Coins, 1980s.

This unusual example is perhaps an imitation of the Gallic I(MP) CA countermark, or of a TI (AV) CA type.
