LUCANIA, Thourioi. Circa 410-400 BC. Electrotype “Double Nomos – Distater” (25mm, 17.09 g, 3h). British Museum electrotype by Robert Ready (marked RR on edge). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated on its bowl with Skylla raising left arm, and on its neck guard with a griffin springing right; trace of Φ above visor / Bull butting right, tiny monogram on rump, on plain ground line above dotted line; ΘOYPIΩN above; in exergue, fish right. Head, Guide, Period III.B., 7-8. For prototype, cf. Noe, Thurian, Group B, 2a = BMC p. 289, 26. As made, attractively toned.
