BANK • LAND • COLLIERY • around, crested shield of arms of the Pickering family, charged with a rampant lion left / A cypher GG (or GR); 1760 below. Mitchner 5354; Cf. DNW (11 December 2002), lot 635. VF, brown surfaces. Crude and rare.

Attributed to Bedworth, Warwickshire, by W.J. Davis in 1895, although by 1922 Davis and Arthur Waters had changed their minds, preferring the eastern section of Workington Colliery, Cumberland. Mitchiner prefers Davis’ original placing.
