Anonymous. 211-210 BC. AR Victoriatus (14.5mm, 2.34 g, 3h). MT series. Mint in Apulia. Laureate head of Jupiter right / Victory standing right, crowning trophy; (MT) monogram to lower right. Crawford 103/1b; Sydenham 117; RSC 36i; Type as RBW 463. VF, toned with areas of find patina, large flan flaw. Rare.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from Kölner Münzkabinett. Ex Prof. Dr. Hildebrecht Hommel (†1996) and the three-generation Hommel family collection; G. Hirsch 107 (6 December 1977), lot 2421; G. Hirsch XLI (9 December 1964), lot 178.

A very rare type with an excellent 1960s provenance and an obverse portrait in the finest style. Crawford has noted the stylistic links between the obverses of these victoriati and those of the main Luceria mint for RRC 97/1. It is quite likely these coins were produced at Luceria. Close examination of the obverse border suggests it is dotted rather than bead and reel, thus this is the /1b variant.[Andrew McCabe]
