ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P COS IIII, laureate head right / Roma, helmeted and draped, seated left on low seat, holding palladium on extended right hand and vertical spear in left; at side to right, shield with head of Gorgon and a central dot. RIC III 159c; Strack 153δ; Calicó 1455 (same obv. die as illustration); BMCRE p. 84, note 590; Biaggi 787; Jameson –; Mazzini 1150 (same obv. die). Superb EF, lustrous, a few faint hairlines on reverse. Wonderful portrait. An attractive example of this anepigraphic reverse type.
