JUDAEA, Caesarea Maritima. Macrinus. AD 217-218. AR Tetradrachm (25.5mm, 13.83 g, 12h). Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing on serpent-entwined torch right, head and tail left, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; between legs, pellet. Prieur –; Sofaer –; cf. CNG E-Sale 434, lot 268 for similar, but bust with slight drapery, no pellet between eagle’s legs. VF, lightly toned, some light porosity. Extremely rare, Prieur did not own this example when he published his book, and one, this coin, in CoinArchives.
