MOESIA INFERIOR, Tomis. Gordian III, with Tranquillina. AD 238-244. Æ Tetrassarion (27mm, 13.96 g, 12h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian right, facing draped bust of Tranquillina left, wearing stephane / Zeus standing left, holding patera and scepter, with eagle at feet; Δ (mark of value) to upper left. AMNG I 3509; Varbanov 5728. Dark green patina. VF.
The reverse die of this coin shows signs of an attempt to erase the Δ, suggesting a possible revaluation during Gordian’s reign.
