Q. Pomponius Musa. 56 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.69 g, 2h). Rome mint. Laureate head of Apollo right; inverted lyre key to left / Calliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry, standing right, playing lyre set on column. Crawford 410/2b; Sydenham 812; Pomponia 10; RBW –; CNG 100, lot 122 (same dies); NAC 46, lot 898 (same dies). Attractive, old cabinet tone, minor flan flaw on obverse and a couple of scratches under tone. Good VF. Only the third example in CoinArchives with the inverted lyre key, all from the same dies. Very rare.
