Sold for $60. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

TROAS, Kolone. 4th century BC. AR Obol(?) (7mm, 0.34 g). Helmeted head of Athena right / Stellate pattern in linear square within incuse square. SNG Arikantürk 418–25; otherwise unpublished in the standard references. Toned, porous, scratches. Near VF. Rare.

The attribution of this series to Kolone, though not certain, is based on a similarity of the types to bronze issues of the city bearing its ethnic. However, an attribution to a city in Troas is assured, due to the amount of this type found in the area (cf. SNG Arikantürk 416–33).
