M. Cato. 89 BC. AR Quinarius (15mm, 1.81 gm). Head of Liber right, wearing ivy wreath; symbol control-mark (thyrsus?) below / Victory seated right on throne, holding palm branch and patera. Crawford 343/2b; Sydenham 597; Porcia 7. Toned VF, partial flat strike.
The partial flat strike of the obverse beneath the head makes a definitive attribution of the control-mark impossible; the slight outline present, however, is consistent with a thyrsus.
