The fabric of this example differs slightly from that of the series known at Ephesus, but the lion’s head on the obverse of this token suggests an origin in western Asia Minor. Without any other examples to compare to, dating and attribution of this specimen remain arbitrary. It may be several centuries older than suggested here.
