KINGS of CAPPADOCIA. Ariarathes I. 333-322 BC. AR Drachm (18mm, 5.34 g, 7h). Gaziura mint. Baal of Gaziura seated left, torso facing, holding grape bunch, grain ear, and eagle in extended right hand, lotus-tipped scepter in left; B’L GZYR (“Baal [of] Gaziura” in Aramaic) to right / Griffin left attacking stag kneeling left; thunderbolt above. Simonetta 2 var. (monogram on obv., different symbol on rev.); Simonetta, Coins –; HGC 7, 791 var. (thunderbolt not noted); Numismatik Naumann 50, lot 260 (same dies). Lightly toned, double struck on obverse with some die wear. Good VF. Extremely rare with thunderbolt, possibly the second known.
