THESSALY, Pharsalos. Late 5th-mid 4th century BC. AR Drachm (20mm, 5.93 g, 3h). Dies signed by the engraver Telephantos. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet with raised earflap; behind neck guard, small TH above IΠ / Warrior, wearing petasos and holding mace over shoulder in right hand, on horseback right; Φ-A-P-Σ (partially retrograde) clockwise around from upper left, small TH in exergue. Lavva 81d corr. (dies V42/R48) = BCD Thessaly I 1284 (this coin); HGC 4, 624. Wonderful old collection tone, with a subtle iridescence, over lustrous surfaces. EF. Well centered and excellent metal for issue. Among the finest examples.
