PHRYGIA, Metropolis. Caracalla. 198-217 AD. Æ 28mm (12.10 gm). Laureate and cuirassed bust left / Triform Hekate standing, holding patera and grain ears. SNG Copenhagen -; SNG von Aulock -; BMC Phrygia -. Apparently unpublished. VF, brown patina, surfaces tooled. ($200)
The figure of Hekate appears on coins of Kibyra and Laodikeia in Phrygia, suggesting the attribution of this unpublished type to Metropolis in Phrygia, rather than to the city of the same name in Ionia.
